Departments, Department of Applied Physics and Science Education

Introduction

Are you a passionate teacher and looking for an opportunity to explore teaching in higher education in an enthusiastic team?

Job Description

In recent years, TU/e has made an impressive transition in educating the ‘engineers of the future’. This was accomplished through the implementation of the Bachelor College in 2012 and the Graduate School in 2013, and the subsequent redesign of the bachelor and master programs for 2023 and 2026, respectively. Developing towards 2030, TU/e has the ambition to continue to offer small-scale and personalized education, which includes ‘Challenge-Based Learning’ and ‘Professional and Personal Development’ as one of the prominent pillars for education. To realize these ambitions we rely on enthusiastic, motivated teachers who can really connect with the students and would like to have impact on their study career, and we need more of them!

The department of Applied Physics and Science Education (APSE) is now looking for a new colleague for teaching and innovation within the applied-physics programs Bachelor Applied Physics, Master Applied Physics and Master Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion. You will combine teaching general courses in these domains with initiating and supervising Challenge-Based-Learning projects, often related to students’ Professional and Personal Development. You collaborate with academic staff in our educational programs and you are eager to learn how to teach in a variety of courses, and how to innovate courses and projects to prepare students in their development as applied physicists for the future. You are curious, communicative and take initiative, and you are comfortable with having different concurrent tasks and complex activities.

As a University Teacher you will be (co)responsible for:

  • Teaching and innovating courses in the APSE educational programs with an emphasis on contributing to bachelor Applied Physics, in several domains of physics such as mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, quantum physics, thermal physics, condensed matter physics and physics of transport phenomena. This includes the organization, co-design and assessment of these courses.
  • Supporting academic staff in the specialization courses of the bachelor Applied Physics and the master Applied Physics or Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion, e.g. by coordinating projects, teaching and innovating courses, preparing course materials and/or guiding and assessing group work.
  • Developing novel modules for teaching and assessment, e.g., using state-of-the-art educational tools including ongoing educational innovations related to blended learning, Challenge-Based Learning, Professional and Personal Development, and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Contributing to optimizing pre-master and double-diploma programs at APSE, that need coordination of teaching activities within curricula and development and delivering tailor-made courses for improved studyability and quality of education.
  • Contributing to the communication, supervision and assessment of students in their final projects of the bachelor and master programs, also in collaboration with TU/e Innovation Space.
