Job Description

The Architecture, Urban Design, and Engineering (AUDE) unit in the department of The Built Environment (TU/E) is looking for an enthusiastic lecturer. (Docent)  

In this role, you will be part of our teaching team, contributing to both our Bachelor and Master tracks through lectures, design studios, group projects, and thesis supervision.

Your main responsibilities will include teaching, supporting students in their academic development, and engaging in innovative teaching approaches.
Additionally, you will be involved in the organization of courses and learning lines.

The Department offers a comprehensive, research-oriented Master of Science (MSc.) degree program within the broad field of the Built Environment. Graduates go on to work in diverse professional areas, such as architecture, urban design and planning, building physics, installation techniques, construction, real estate management and building production. The department is also a research institute comprising various laboratories and four research programs in which high-level research is conducted.

The AUDE unit (Architectural and Urban Design and Engineering) is one of the four units making up the Department of the Built Environment.
The unit consists of five chairs namely, the chair of Architectural Design and Engineering (ADE), Rational Architecture (RA), Smart Architectural Technology (SAT), Transformational Architecture (TA) and Architectural History and Theory (AHT).
Spatial design is both the raison d’être of the unit as a whole as well as the binding force between the chairs. The unit works in a cross-disciplinary context, in collaboration with the faculty and the University as a whole.

Job Requirements

  • The ideal candidate is actively engaged with current architectural debates and societal challenges, bringing relevant insights into the classroom. A strong affinity for connecting design with broader social, environmental, and technical challenges is essential. The candidate has good knowledge of architectural design methodologies, architectural design theory and research by design.
  • The candidate has relevant experience in architectural design and has an architectural portfolio.
  • The candidate must hold or be willing to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (BKO in Dutch).
  • Strong teaching skills demonstrated through experience in studio and other pedagogical settings.
  • An excellent command of English (written and verbal) at a C1 level is essential. The working language of the TU/e is English.

Conditions of Employment

  • A monthly salary of minimum € 3,546 to maximum € 6,433 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 10 or 11 collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities). Depending on your work experience and competences, you will be graded on a teacher 4 or teacher 3 level.
  • In addition to vacation pay, a structural end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
