Introduction

Are you passionate about Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies and research in the field of materials? Are you ready to shape the future of manufacturing at the Eindhoven University of Technology? Join our AM-Lab as technician and support us in developing the materials and the devices of tomorrow!

Job Description

To address the growing demand of technical parts with customized geometries and to satisfy the expansion of research threads in the area of 3-dimensional printing of different materials classes, the CEM sections have jointly established a state-of-the-art additive manufacturing (AM) facility, the AM-Lab. As a Laboratory Technician in the Additive Manufacturing Lab (AM-Lab), you will play a central role in enabling research in the field of materials manufacturing and processing. The AM-Lab is part of the Computational and Experimental Mechanics (CEM) Division within the Department of Mechanical Engineering and supports a wide range of projects involving 3D printing across all classes of materials, from metals, to polymers, ceramics, and composites. You will be responsible for the selection, installation, maintenance, repair, and operation a variety of advanced additive manufacturing systems, ranging from fused deposition modeling (FDM) to stereolithography (SLA) and selective laser sintering (SLS) devices. You will also support the development of customized experimental setups for research into novel printing strategies, and you will collaborate with staff, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students from different backgrounds and engineering domains. The AM-Lab will be a dynamic environment where innovation in materials manufacturing will lead to new printing strategies and advanced prototyping, e.g. 3D printing of complex material combinations, enabling collaborations across the CEM Division and beyond the Mechanical Engineering Department. As lab technician of the AM-lab, you will be a key enabler of experiments that push the boundaries across material design, synthesis and part/component fabrication.

Job Requirements

  • A vocational (MBO) or higher education diploma in mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in the development of safety procedures for the laboratory environment.
  • Experience in assembling experimental setups, as well as in modifying and repairing laboratory equipment.
  • Organizational skills: managing multiple tasks, maintain inventory, and enforce standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Effective communication skills in English (spoken and written), with the ability to work well with students, researchers, and external partners.

Preferred skills

  • Work experience or specialized training in additive manufacturing, including 3D printing with polymers, metals, or ceramics.
  • Familiarity with chemicals, powders, and (nano)particles.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, with the ability to design, adapt, and improve 3D models for printing.

If you don’t meet every job requirement or preferred skill, but you are excited about the role, we encourage you to apply. We are looking forward to exploring your potential.

Conditions of employment

  • A competitive monthly salary ranging from € 3,218 to € 4,860 gross per month (based on full-time employment), depending on your knowledge and experience, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% of the annual salary and a vacation allowance of 8% of the annual salary.

About us

TU/e is a leading international university that educates engineers of the future and pushes the boundaries of science and technology for a better world. An international community of close to 7,000 employees and 13,000 students work and study on the vibrant and inspiring campus.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering focuses on the design, analysis, optimization of innovative products and processes. In parallel, it is also dedicated to the development of novel structural and functional materials. The faculty adopts a multidisciplinary approach, that integrates elements from mathematics, chemistry, physics and computer science, achieving a blend between theoretical concepts and computational models, that support practical technological applications. Mechanical Engineering benefits from a dynamic research environment, that fosters the creation of strong ties with industry, start-ups and other businesses. As of 2025, the Department counts 2000+ students, 220+ researchers and 110+ scientific staff members.

Within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Division of Computational and Experimental Mechanics (CEM) consists of three main sections: Mechanics of Materials, Processing and Performance, and Microsystems. The Division actively and closely collaborates on the design, development, processing and analysis of materials, for applications in the construction, energy, biomedical, automotive and aerospace sectors. For years, the CEM Division has successfully shared laboratory spaces and resources to conduct experimental research. Experimental efforts involve multiple subjects from complex fluids behavior to materials manufacturing and mechanics, to the development and operation of biomedical devices.  Often, CEM research relies on the design and development of dedicated specialized experimental setups, that range from the complete construction of components and measurement tools to minor technical operations.
