Job Description

At TU/e’s Electrical Engineering department we are setting up a team to strengthen our valorisation activities. The goal of this team is to develop our research outcomes further from typically low technology readiness levels (TRL3-4) towards market-relevant prototypes (TRL 6-8). In this way we facilitate technology transfer to industry or provide a promising starting point for university spin-offs.

For this team we are looking for a wireless system architect who can lead the technical valorisation activities linked to our Center for Wireless technology (CWTe, www.tue.nl/cwte). The ideal candidate should have relevant industry experience of 10 years or more. Together with the business developer(s) and the valorisation team, he/she will work closely with our researchers/professors to help them develop their research outcomes further towards relevant market opportunities. Such role requires a proactive and independent work attitude, a solid understanding of wireless system design, entrepreneurial thinking and a talent to lead a technical team with members of different technical expertise and diverse backgrounds.

The main tasks of the wireless system architect are to:

  • help assess proposed research outcomes in terms of technical feasibility for further development
  • interact with the researchers/professors whose research outcomes are being valorized
  • work closely with business development and valorisation team
  • develop technical requirements and system designs
  • lead a team of engineers to perform the development efforts in technical and management aspects
  • play an active role in the development team while keeping an oversight of the overall system design progress
  • take the lead in (human) resource planning for various valorisation projects

Job Requirements

This position requires extensive experience in wireless system design and may be ideal for people from industry who are looking for a new challenge for their next career step. In particular, we are looking for candidates who meet the following profile:

  • More than 10 years of experience in wireless system design or an equivalent role
  • Experience in team management and different development methods, like scrum, agile
  • Affinity to work on the interface between academia and industry as well as government
  • Ability to influence without power
  • Good communication skills
  • Team player who can mentor junior colleagues
  • Willingness to step out of their comfort zone and expand their current knowledge
  • A PhD is appreciated but not a must for this position
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required, Dutch is advantageous

  • A monthly salary of minimum €6,512 to maximum €8,673 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 13/14 collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities).
