Are you fascinated by the challenge of doubling the efficiency of solar cells? We are seeking an ambitious Assistant Professor passionate about developing efficient and sustainable photovoltaics using emerging optoelectronic materials and device acceleration platforms.

The position

The Molecular Materials and Nanosystems group, specializing in unconventional semiconductors and devices is seeking an outstanding early-career researcher for a position at the level of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will contribute to our mission of advancing emerging semiconductor materials and devices through innovative approaches that connect materials discovery and design with applied energy technologies.

We are particularly interested in candidates working at the interface of emerging photoactive semiconductors and machine learning–driven high-efficiency device optimization. Expertise in spectroscopic and analytical techniques as well as in high-throughput characterization is highly desirable. Applicants are expected to establish an independent research program that explores novel device architectures and device acceleration platforms for sustainable, high-performance solar cells and other optoelectronic devices.

The activities of the research group are organized around two core research lines: Materials Discovery, Design, and Synthesis, and Device Physics and Performance. The ideal candidate will complement and strengthen the latter, with a focus on device-level understanding and innovation. Together, our aim is to leverage computational and experimental synergies to accelerate progress in unconventional semiconductors and devices.

The candidate will further contribute to teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and graduate levels. This involves teaching and developing (new) courses in the curriculum that include challenge-based learning and supervising bachelor and master students in their research projects.

In addition to demonstrating research and teaching excellence, the successful applicant will be expected to actively raise research funding, and to participate fully in the dynamic, collaborative environment of the group. We particularly value researchers who are committed to interdisciplinary teamwork, open science, and the advancement of sustainable optoelectronic technologies.
