Job Description
As a Data Management Advisor, you will play a strategic role in advancing TU/e’s data maturity. You’ll be part of the Data Management team within the Data & Insights Product Area at the Library and Information Services (LIS) department, working alongside a dedicated team of data management professionals. Together, you will contribute to the development and implementation of TU/e’s Data Strategy and Data Governance Framework, ensuring that data is treated as a valuable institutional asset.
You will collaborate with stakeholders across the university — including faculties, service departments, and expert teams in privacy, security, business intelligence, and archiving — to embed robust data management practices into daily operations and strategic initiatives.
Your responsibilities
- Provide advice and strategic insights on data management across all TU/e departments;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of TU/e’s data strategy, data governance policies, standards, and procedures;
- Guide the effective management of corporate data, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance;
- Support the adoption of data classification, retention, and sensitivity labelling practices (e.g., via tools like Microsoft Purview);
- Connect and align data-related initiatives across the university to foster a unified approach;
- Contribute to building a structured oversight and guidance for managing corporate data effectively;
- Provide advice and support on implementation of data management practices and ensuring quality assurance;
- Deliver training and awareness sessions on data management topics.
Job Requirements
You are a strategic thinker with a strong foundation in data management and a collaborative mindset. You bring:
- A degree in higher professional (HBO) or academic (WO) level of education or equivalent working and thinking capacity;
- Five – seven years proven experience in data governance, developing strategy, data policies and other related data frameworks;
- Sound knowledge of DAMA DMBOK and data governance in particular is a plus;
- Proven expertise in data management knowledge areas such as data governance, metadata management, data quality, and master data management;
- Skills and experience to translate data knowledge into strategic advice and ability to contribute to the development of policies and guidelines in collaboration with privacy, security, and other data experts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Fluent language skills in English, both spoken and written (note: interviews may be conducted in English);
- Knowledge of and experience with data management tooling and AI;
- Experience with Agile working methods and agile mindset;
- Sense of interpersonal relationships within an organization;
Pre: if you have working experience within organizations in higher education, research and/or experience in implementing data strategy, data governance frameworks in a large organization.

- A monthly salary of minimum €3.546,- to maximum €6.433,- for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (salary scale 10/11 in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities).
