Departments, Department of Electrical Engineering

Introduction

  • Do you get energy from helping researchers turn their scientific insights into real-world impact within an academic environment of the Brainport region?
  • Do you wish to be challenged by working on and in medtech-related collaborations and ecosystems?
  • Are you interested in helping the C3Te Team to discover how project development can tie into valorization opportunities?

Then we have the job for you!

Job Description

We are looking for a colleague who thrives at the intersection of project development and valorization – supporting researchers in securing research funding and translating their work into societal and economic impact as a member of the Center for Care & Cure Technology (C3Te) within the Electrical Engineering department. In this role, you will also support the creation of strategic relationships with industry, government, and other institutions, exploring new opportunities and aligning them with market trends for the department.

As a Project Development Officer, you are the expert on scouting for research funding and developing new research collaborations, like consortia formation, with (international) researchers, clinics, and the (medtech) industry. You focus on supporting researchers or consortia in converting their ideas into strong, fundable research proposals. You help articulate problems, approaches, solutions, and impact clearly and compellingly. You work closely with researchers to identify suitable funding opportunities and match them with innovative ideas. You contribute to project development and provide strategic support throughout the process. You organize meetings and events with your C3Te colleagues to foster new connections and funding opportunities within the healthcare domain in the Electrical Engineering department.

Your role in valorization aims to be the linking pin between science and representatives of the medical industry and clinics. This emerging new responsibility aims to support researchers in translating their scientific insights into products and services that create real-world impact. You inform and advise researchers and external stakeholders about valorization options arising from the C3Te-affiliated research. Finally, the responsibility in this role is to actively connect to the valorization office of the department and the university (TKO/The Gate). Your expertise enables you to stimulate cooperation between the university and external partners, contributing to a vibrant medtech innovation ecosystem.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate has a PhD or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent, with an affinity for the medtech domain, experience in the medtech industry, or knowledge of medtech research. We are looking forward to applications from both junior- and senior-level candidates.

The successful candidate has most of the following skills:

  • Experience/expert in structuring and substantiating research ideas into high-quality projects and business proposals, in collaboration with partners from the medical industry, clinics, and governmental bodies. This includes awareness about the funding landscapes of NWO, Horizon Europe, and public-private partnerships.
  • Experience with funding instruments that support valorization, such as SME collaboration grants, innovation vouchers, or Horizon Europe’s innovation actions.
  • Knowledge of innovation ecosystems, particularly in the medtech domain, and ability to navigate regional and national valorization networks (e.g., Brainport, 4TU Federation, EWUU, e/MTIC).
  • Ability to identify market potential of research results and support researchers in developing business cases or impact strategies in close collaboration with a TTO Office.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property processes, including patenting, licensing, and spin-off creation, is appreciated.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English, with a command of the Dutch language for communicating with clinical staff.
  • A team player with a proactive mindset is essential as a member of the C3Te.
  • An open and professional communicator who can adapt when connecting to different stakeholders (e.g., industry, researchers, clinicians, etc.)

If you are concerned that you don’t meet all the requirements sufficiently, but the job excites you, be sure to respond; we would love to look at your profile.
