Departments, Department of Built Environment

Introduction

Are you a strategic IT leader with a passion for innovation in research and education? Are you ready to shape the future of digital infrastructure in a dynamic academic environment? Join us to lead the transformation of our Built Environment departmental digital facilities.

Job Description

As Departmental IT Coordinator for Digital Research and Education Facilities at the Department of the Built Environment, you will lead the transformation of our IT landscape—centralizing and future-proofing digital infrastructure across the department. You’ll be the strategic link between research, education, and technology, ensuring our digital labs meet evolving academic needs.

Two key challenges await you: first, designing and implementing a change process to consolidate decentralized digital resources into a unified departmental lab; second, developing a multi-year roadmap for sustainable maintenance, procurement, and staffing. You will also oversee compliance with data security and privacy standards, and drive innovation through pilot projects and emerging technologies.

Within our collaborative and forward-thinking department, you’ll work closely with unit chairs, education and research management teams, and TU/e’s Library and Information Services (LIS). In this role you’ll be switching between strategic planning and hands-on coordination.

Job Requirements

  • A Master’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in managing digital infrastructure in academic or research environments.
  • Strong understanding of IT systems, hardware/software lifecycle management, system integration, and data security (including GDPR compliance).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with project and change management, preferably within complex organizations.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and Agile methodologies is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset to engage effectively with unit chairs, department boards, and service teams.
  • Dutch language proficiency is a plus, but not required.

If you are concerned that you don’t meet all the requirements sufficiently, but the job does excite you, then be sure to respond, we would love to look at your profile.

Conditions of Employment

An exciting position within an international yet personal university. You are right in the middle of the students, on a green campus within walking distance of the central station. Besides beautiful architecture, you will find varied workplaces and excellent sports facilities. We also offer you:

  • A monthly salary of minimum €5,705 to maximum €7,297 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 12 collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities).
  • In addition to vacation pay, a structural end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • A favorable arrangement for more holidays or a sabbatical.
  • A selection model for additional fringe benefits.
  • Working hours in consultation for an optimal work-life balance.
  • Scope for your talent with advancement prospects and excellent development opportunities such as mentoring, workshops and coaching.
