Eindhoven University of Technology is an internationally top-ranking university in the Netherlands that combines scientific curiosity with a hands-on attitude. Our spirit of collaboration translates into an open culture and a top-five position in collaborating with advanced industries. Fundamental knowledge enables us to design solutions for the highly complex problems of today and tomorrow.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering department conducts world-class research aligned with the technological interests of the high-tech industry in the Netherlands, with a focus on the Brainport region. Our goal is to produce engineers who are both scientifically educated and application-driven by providing a balanced education and research program that combines fundamental and application aspects. We equip our graduates with practical and theoretical expertise, preparing them optimally for future challenges.
Are you passionate about mathematical control theory and its applications? Are you eager to develop estimation and control algorithms for large-scale dynamical systems with the aim of making next-generation energy systems resilient? Then, you are the PostDoc we are looking for.
We invite highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with a strong background in mathematical systems and control theory to apply for the postdoctoral position within the Dynamics and Control section at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology. The mission of the Dynamics and Control Section is to perform research and train next-generation students on the topic of understanding and predicting the dynamics of complex engineering systems in order to develop advanced control, estimation, planning, learning and diagnostics strategies which are at the core of the intelligent autonomous systems of the future: Designing and realizing smart autonomous systems for industry and society.
You will be working on a research project in developing new approaches for the control of future energy systems with up to 100% integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). Future energy systems are large-scale dynamical systems which are vulnerable to critical events, such as extreme weather, congestion, local voltage problems, or (cyber) attacks. Your primary objective is to develop resource-aware control and state (and parameter) estimation algorithms capable of effectively managing corrupted measurement data, communication constraints and modelling uncertainties.
You will be joining the team of Dr. Michelle Chong on the project titled “ProRES: Proactive Resilience for Enhanced Energy System Flexibility and Stability.” ProRES is a collaborative EU-wide initiative that brings together academic partners from the Austrian Institute of Technology (Austria), OFFIS EV (Germany), Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Germany), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and National Sun-Yat-Sen University (Taiwan). Additionally, the project involves distribution system operators and infrastructure service providers from Austria and Sweden.
A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:
