Short introduction

Are you interested in teacher professional development, for secondary STEM teachers? Are you close to finishing your PhD in the area of STEM-education (particularly mathematics or science education), and do you seek a Postdoc position? We are searching for a postdoc in the area of teacher professional development, particularly with respect to professionalizing teachers in creating classrooms for developing students‘ literacy (reading and writing) in STEM.

Job Description

As a postdoc, you will be responsible for organizing, setting up, and implementing professional learning communities (PLCs) with secondary STEM-teachers in the Limburg region. You will guide teachers during their professionalization towards developing students’ literacy, that is, their language skills (reading, writing) for making critical judgements in the STEM subjects. For instance, when engaging in mathematical modelling, students need to be able to read and synthesize information in critical ways, and make judgements and decisions about mathematical information, as well as communicate their reasoning. You will work in collaboration with mathematics and science educators at Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE). You will be supported to strengthen your own research profile so that you can shape your academic career. In the project, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team of STEM educators and teacher educators, in collaboration with Radboud Docent Academie.

Job Requirements

Your profile

  • You have a PhD in STEM education (mathematics or science) and, ideally, a first-degree teaching certificate (eerstegraadsbevoegdheid)
  • You have teaching experience as a teacher, ideally in a secondary school in the Netherlands.
  • You are communicatively strong and can guide a team of teachers during their professionalization, for example in Professional Learning Communities
  • You have a strong research profile, ideally in the domain of literacy / language in the multicultural and multilingual STEM classroom or in connected areas.
  • You are proficient in Dutch (speaking, reading, and writing, B2-level or higher) and are willing to develop this further.
  • You can work independently and in a team of researchers.

Conditions of Employment

  • Part-time (0,5 fte) employment for 3 years.
  • A gross monthly salary of min. € 3707,- and max. € 5331,- based on a fulltime (1 fte) employment in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (scale 10).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.

  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
